The importance of friends
Friends can take many different forms. They might be someone we met when we were young, a classmate at school, a coworker, or a friend of someone else. They might be pals we've made virtually on the internet or friends who live far away in another nation. Regardless of their identity or how we first connected, there is a unique bond based on a common past and set of interests, whether it be through activities or just plain communication and understanding. Friends support and rejoice with us at our happy and sad moments. According to medical professionals, friendships are crucial for maintaining our mental and physical well-being throughout our lives.
Declaring an International Friendship Day
However, friendships are significant on a personal level as well. Globally, friendship may also be significant. Cross-border friendships have the power to prevent conflict and promote peace. As we collaborate to create a culture of peace, we may better consider those who are different from us as our friends. The UN proclaimed July 30 to be the official International Day of Friendship for this reason.
The origins of the day
The World Friendship Mission was the organization that initially proposed a multinational celebration. In 1958, Dr. Ramón Artemio Bracho and his companions established this organization in Puerto Pinasco, Paraguay. Their goal was to uphold the value of friendship and its ability to foster a culture of peace. Thus, they decided to observe Friendship Week in Puerto Pinasco and other parts of Paraguay that same year. They held the same week the following year, concluding on July 30, which they observed as Friendship Day. From then on, friendliness festivities evolved and extended throughout the Americas and eventually the world, leading to the UN's 2011 declaration of an International Day of Friendship.
What do people do on the International Day of Friendship?
The festivities are essentially the same wherever it is observed. Friends come together to spend time together. They could have dinner at home or out. They exchange little presents with one another, including flowers, books, and basic jewelry like a friendship band. Certain individuals exchange online greeting cards and cards. The goal of the celebration, no matter how it is organized, is to never forget the value and strength of friendship.
